Panel: The Intersection of the Civil Rights and Catholic Worker Movements in Memphis

Join us for a powerful and timely conversation exploring the shared roots, values, and lasting impact of the Civil Rights Movement and the Catholic Worker Movement—two transformative forces that have shaped Memphis and continue to call us toward justice, dignity, and community.

This special panel brings together distinguished voices whose work bridges history, theology, and lived experience, including Martha Hennessy, granddaughter of Dorothy Day; Russ Wigginton, President of the National Civil Rights Museum; Anne Mulhearn, author and historian; and Pete Gathje, theologian and co-founder of Manna House.

Panelists will examine how faith, activism, and community organizing have intersected in Memphis—and what these movements can teach us as we work toward a more just and compassionate future.

This event is part of Dorothy Day House’s 20th Anniversary celebration, honoring our roots while looking ahead to the work still before us.
