Join Our Team: House Manager

At Dorothy Day House, we believe every family deserves the opportunity to rebuild their lives with dignity, stability, and hope. We're looking for a compassionate, organized, and dependable House Manager to help make that possible.

As a House Manager, you'll serve as the primary staff presence in one of our transitional family homes, walking alongside parents and children as they work toward permanent housing and long-term stability. This role combines case management, relationship-building, problem-solving, and day-to-day household oversight in a supportive, mission-driven environment.

Position Details

  • Position: House Manager

  • Reports to: Executive Director

  • Salary: $40,000/year

  • Location: On-site in Memphis, TN

What You'll Do

House Managers provide both practical support and compassionate guidance to families during their stay at Dorothy Day House. Responsibilities include:

  • Building trusting relationships with resident families

  • Supporting parents as they work toward individualized goals

  • Assisting families with housing, employment, benefits, transportation, and community resources

  • Maintaining family documentation and coordinating admissions

  • Overseeing daily operations of the house, including supplies, volunteers, and maintenance needs

  • Collaborating with staff to provide workshops, community engagement opportunities, and resident support

  • Helping create a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment for every family

Qualifications

We're looking for someone who has:

  • A bachelor's degree or at least three years of related experience

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

  • The ability to build relationships with people from diverse backgrounds

  • Knowledge of the challenges facing families experiencing housing instability

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office

  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license

  • Flexibility to occasionally work evenings and weekends

  • A commitment to the mission and values of Dorothy Day House

Hiring Process

Candidates selected to move forward in the hiring process will be invited to participate in a paid three-day shadowing experience with one of our current House Managers before a final employment offer is made. This gives both you and our team the opportunity to ensure the position is the right fit.
